A New Book on Christian Publishing

Dear friends,

I want to tell you about a book project I have been working on.

For the last several months, in the spare time between travel and conferences and the ordinary work of getting books into the hands of pastors, I have been writing a book. It is called This Is Christian Publishing, and it is not a how-to manual. It is something closer to a manifesto: short, sharp essays written to Christian publishers, especially those serving minority, under-resourced contexts, calling them to greater boldness and theological conviction in the work they do.

I did not expect to write this book. But after almost two decades leading a French-language publishing house, sitting inside a fellowship of confessional publishers, and watching underserved regions starve for sound material while good books sit unread on shelves elsewhere, I found I had something to say. Not a formula but a provocation. The kind of writing that does not tell a publisher what to do, but changes how they see the work they are already doing.

The style owes a real debt to Seth Godin, whose short, punchy way of writing has shaped how I am writing this book. Not just his content, but his conviction that a single sharp idea, said plainly, can move people further than a manual ever could.

A publisher’s courage, or lack of it, echoes into a hundred pulpits they will never see. If I can sharpen the conviction of the people making those decisions, especially in places where resources are thin and the temptation to imitate the West is strong, I am not just writing a book. I am trying to strengthen what will influence the Global Church.

My hope is to have the manuscript finished and in print by the end of this year, so that in January 2027, at a gathering of publishers I will be attending, I can put a copy in the hands of every team represented there, not just the person leading it. I want publishing teams to be able to read this book together and discuss and how they implement these ideas in their unique contexts.

I will be honest with you. Writing alongside everything else I carry is hard. Words come slowly when they have to compete with travel schedules and distribution logistics and the hundred small emergencies of ministry. I covet your prayers for this the way I covet them for everything else you carry before the Lord on my behalf.

There is also a practical need. Printing a book of this kind, in the quantities needed to put a copy in the hands of every team member at the January gathering, will cost approximately $5,000 to print 1000 copies. I am trusting the Lord for this provision the same way I have trusted Him for every book that has ever reached a pastor’s hands through this ministry, and I wanted you to know, in case He is calling any of you to be part of that provision.

How you can pray:

  • That I would find the time to finish the book.
  • That the writing would stay sharp and true.
  • That the Lord would provide the $5,000 needed for printing, and provide it through the right hands.
  • That the book would be ready in time by January 2027.
  • That it would do what I hope: put backbone and clarity into publishers who are deciding, right now, what the next generation of pastors will read.

Thank you for standing with me in this. I do not do this work alone.

In Christ,

Daniel
